Τορναρίτης: Η Κύπρος μπορεί να γίνει γέφυρα ειρήνης και ενεργειακής σταθερότητας μεταξύ Ευρώπης και Ασίας
ΑΝΑΚΟΙΝΩΘΕΝ ΒΟΥΛΗΣ ΤΩΝ ΑΝΤΙΠΡΟΣΩΠΩΝ
Ολοκληρώθηκαν χθες στο Ισφαχάν του Ιράν οι εργασίες της Μόνιμης Επιτροπής Πολιτικών Υποθέσεων της Ασιατικής Κοινοβουλευτικής Συνέλευσης, στις οποίες συμμετείχε ο Κοινοβουλευτικός Εκπρόσωπος του Δημοκρατικού Συναγερμού και Αν. Πρόεδρος της Κοινοβουλευτικής Επιτροπής Εξωτερικών και Ευρωπαϊκών Υποθέσεων, κ. Νίκος Τορναρίτης, ως επικεφαλής της κυπριακής αντιπροσωπείας στη Συνέλευση.
Η Επιτροπή υιοθέτησε ψηφίσματα που αφορούν στην προώθηση της χρηστής διακυβέρνησης, ορθών κοινοβουλευτικών πρακτικών και του κράτους δικαίου, ειδικότερα μέσω της συνεργασίας και της ανταλλαγής βέλτιστων πρακτικών μεταξύ των μελών της Συνέλευσης. Τα ψηφίσματα θα προωθηθούν για έγκριση στην επόμενη Σύνοδο της Ολομέλειας της Ασιατικής Κοινοβουλευτικής Συνέλευσης που θα πραγματοποιηθεί τον προσεχή Δεκέμβριο στην Ισλαμαμπάντ.
Σε σχετική παρέμβασή του, ο κ. Τορναρίτης υπογράμμισε πως η Κύπρος μπορεί και πρέπει να γίνει γέφυρα ειρήνης, πολιτισμού, ανάπτυξης και ενεργειακής σταθερότητας, συνδέοντας την Ευρώπη με την Ασία. Τόσο η γεωγραφική θέση όσο και η μακραίωνη ιστορία της Κύπρου ανάμεσα σε τρεις ηπείρους, συνέχισε ο κ. Τορναρίτης, αποδεικνύουν πως μπορεί να επιτελέσει αυτό το ρόλο και να καταστεί ένας συνεπής και αξιόπιστος εταίρος για τα κράτη της Ασίας.
Αναφερόμενος στα ψηφίσματα που υιοθέτησε η Επιτροπή, ο κ. Τορναρίτης σημείωσε πως αυτά αποτελούν πολύτιμα εργαλεία για ανάπτυξη μιας δομημένης και στοχευμένης συνεργασίας μεταξύ των κοινοβουλίων – μελών της Ασιατικής Κοινοβουλευτικής Συνέλευσης. Τόνισε δε την ετοιμότητα της Βουλής των Αντιπροσώπων να εργαστεί με τα υπόλοιπα μέλη της Συνέλευσης προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση.
Στο περιθώριο της Συνεδρίας, ο κ. Τορναρίτης πραγματοποίησε κατ’ ιδίαν επαφές με τους επικεφαλής των αντιπροσωπειών της Ρωσίας και του Καζακστάν, με τους οποίους συζήτησε τις τελευταίες εξελίξεις στην ευρύτερη περιοχή. Είχε, τέλος, χωριστές συναντήσεις με τις αντιπροσωπείες της Ιορδανίας και του Λιβάνου, με τις οποίες ανέλυσε τις προοπτικές περαιτέρω εμβάθυνσης των σχέσεων, στο πλαίσιο και των τριμερών συνεργασιών, που έχει αναπτύξει η Κύπρος με τα γειτονικά αυτά κράτη.

APA STANDING COMMITTEE ON POLITICAL AFFAIRS

Dear Colleagues,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We thank the Secretariat for its hard work in organizing this Meeting in the beautiful and historic city of Isfahan and express our gratitude and thanks to our Iranian hosts for their warm welcome.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words in remembrance of our dear friend and colleague, Honourable Zuhair Sanduqa, who passed away a few weeks ago. Mr. Sanduqa was a respected and committed member of the APA who fought with passion and dedication for the Palestinian cause. I am certain he will always be remembered for his fervent interventions and constructive contributions. On behalf of the Cyprus delegation to the APA, I would like to express our deepest and most sincere condolences to Mr. Sanduqa’s family and close friends, as well as to the Palestinian delegation to the APA and the Palestinian National Council. He will be sorely missed.
The issue of the creation of an Asian Parliament has been discussed for several years now. It is of course a challenging matter that requires careful examination of the pros and cons before deciding on the next steps. In our view, the Asian Parliament should take the form of a consultative body, in conformity with the existing framework of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly. In this regard, we should not focus discussions on changing the character of the APA, but should rather focus our efforts on improving the structure and content of our meetings and resolutions. We already have an agreed framework in place, it is time we used it as the basis for more systematic and constructive work on issues that affect all of us.
We should all work together to set out an action plan, so as to harmonize efforts and adopt a common stance on issues of mutual effect, as this would be a concrete foundation on which we can further build on. Our fundamental goal as APA always remains the wellbeing, progress and prosperity of our citizens. In this respect, we must strive to foster national and international measures designed to promote the concept of a peace culture, combating all forms of violence, outlawing terrorism, safeguarding human rights and promoting sustainable development.
The resolutions we are discussing today provide a great basis upon which we can build a stronger network of Asian Parliaments. In particular the two resolutions on the “Rule of Law and Judicial Empowerment” and on “Good Parliamentary Practices” urge us to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation, through exchanges and sharing of experiences and best practices. The Republic of Cyprus and its House of Representatives has set as its goal the establishment of close collaboration with many countries in our region, forming an agenda that includes issues of mutual concern, such as the effects of climate change, educational and cultural exchanges and water management. We stand ready to expand these collaborations and to enhance further ties with our APA partners.
