ΔΕΛΤΙΑ ΤΥΠΟΥ ΒΟΥΛΗΣ ΤΩΝ ΑΝΤΙΠΡΟΣΩΠΩΝ
Ο Τορναρίτης επικεφαλής κοινοβουλευτικής αντιπροσωπείας στη Σμύρνη για την Ασιατική Κοινοβουλευτική Συνέλευση
Αντιπροσωπεία της Βουλής των Αντιπροσώπων, με επικεφαλής τον Κοινοβουλευτικό Εκπρόσωπο του Δημοκρατικού Συναγερμού, κ. Νίκο Τορναρίτη, Αντιπρόεδρο της Ασιατικής Κοινοβουλευτικής Συνέλευσης (ΑΚΣ) και Πρόεδρο της Μόνιμης Επιτροπής Οικονομίας και Αειφόρου Ανάπτυξης της Συνέλευσης, αναχωρεί σήμερα Τετάρτη, 3 Οκτωβρίου, για τη Σμύρνη, όπου θα συμμετάσχει σε συνεδρίες της Μόνιμης Επιτροπής Κοινωνικών και Πολιτιστικών Υποθέσεων και του 1ου Μέρους του Εκτελεστικού Συμβουλίου της ΑΚΣ, για το 2018, οι οποίες θα πραγματοποιηθούν από 4 ως 6 Οκτωβρίου 2018. Στην αποστολή συμμετέχει και ο βουλευτής του ΑΚΕΛ, κ. Χριστάκης Τζιοβάνης, Μέλος της ΑΚΣ, ενώ την αντιπροσωπεία συνοδεύουν η Ανώτερη Λειτουργός Διεθνών Σχέσεων της Βουλής, κα Χριστιάνα Σολομωνίδου και η Λειτουργός Διεθνών Σχέσεων, κα Λουκία Μούγη.
Η Επιτροπή Κοινωνικών και Πολιτιστικών Θεμάτων θα εξετάσει, μεταξύ άλλων, ζητήματα που άπτονται της προστασίας της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς και της πολιτιστικής ποικιλομορφίας, όπως και της καταπολέμησης της παράνομης εμπορίας πολιτιστικών αγαθών. Θα συζητήσει επίσης θέματα βελτίωσης της ποιότητας ζωής των πολιτών, μέσω της προώθησης της συνεργασίας σε ζητήματα υγείας, μετανάστευσης, καταπολέμησης της παράνομης διακίνησης ναρκωτικών και της διαφθοράς, καθώς και της αποστολής ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας σε χώρες που πλήττονται από διαμάχες.
Το Εκτελεστικό Συμβούλιο θα καθορίσει κατά τη συνεδρία του τα θέματα και τα ψηφίσματα που θα συζητηθούν και θα προωθηθούν για έγκριση κατά την επόμενη Σύνοδο της Ολομέλειας της ΑΚΣ, που αναμένεται να πραγματοποιηθεί τέλη ερχόμενου Νοεμβρίου στην Τουρκία.

Τροπολογίες Τορναρίτη για την καταστροφή του πολιτισμού μας από την Τουρκία στη Σύνοδο της ΑΚΣ στη Σμύρνη
Ξεκίνησαν σήμερα στη Σμύρνη, οι εργασίες της Μόνιμης Επιτροπής Κοινωνικών και Πολιτιστικών Υποθέσεων της Ασιατικής Κοινοβουλευτικής Συνέλευσης (ΑΚΣ), στις οποίες συμμετέχει Κοινοβουλευτική αντιπροσωπεία, αποτελούμενη από τον επικεφαλής της αντιπροσωπείας, Κοινοβουλευτικό Εκπρόσωπο του Δημοκρατικού Συναγερμού, κ. Νίκο Τορναρίτη (Αντιπρόεδρο της ΑΚΣ και Πρόεδρο της Μόνιμης Επιτροπής Οικονομίας και Αειφόρου Ανάπτυξης της Συνέλευσης) και το μέλος, βουλευτή του ΑΚΕΛ, κ. Χριστάκη Τζιοβάνη.
Σε παρέμβασή του κατά τη συζήτηση προσχεδίου ψηφίσματος, σχετικά με τα μέτρα προστασίας της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς και της πολυμορφίας της Ασίας, ο κ. Τορναρίτης εισηγήθηκε συγκεκριμένες τροπολογίες που αφορούσαν στην καταστροφή πολιτιστικών μνημείων αρχαιολογικής και θρησκευτικής σημασίας, σε χώρες που πλήττονται από συγκρούσεις. Στις τροπολογίες που κατέθεσε ο κ. Τορναρίτης κάνει επίσης ιδιαίτερη αναφορά σε περιπτώσεις όπου υπάρχει παράνομη διακίνηση και πώληση αρχαιοτήτων αλλά και καταστροφή τους, λόγω βομβαρδισμών ή άλλων εχθροπραξιών, υποδεικνύοντας ως τρανταχτό παράδειγμα τη περίπτωση της Κύπρου και την τεράστια καταστροφή της πολιτιστικής και θρησκευτικής της κληρονομιάς από την Τουρκία. Οι τροπολογίες του κ. Τορναρίτη, έγιναν αποδεκτές και έχουν ήδη συμπεριληφθεί στο προσχέδιο ψηφίσματος.

Συνεχίζονται και ολοκληρώνονται σήμερα οι εργασίες της Μόνιμης Επιτροπής Κοινωνικών και Πολιτιστικών Υποθέσεων και του Πρώτου Εκτελεστικού Συμβουλίου της Ασιατικής Κοινοβουλευτικής Συνέλευσης (ΑΚΣ) στη Σμύρνη, στις οποίες η Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων συμμετέχει με διμελή αντιπροσωπεία, αποτελούμενη από τον επικεφαλής, κ. Νίκο Τορναρίτη, Αντιπρόεδρο της ΑΚΣ και Πρόεδρο της Μόνιμης Επιτροπής Οικονομίας και Αειφόρου Ανάπτυξης της Συνέλευσης και το μέλος, κ. Χριστάκη Τζιοβάνη.
Κατά τις εργασίες του Πρώτου Εκτελεστικού Συμβουλίου της ΑΚΣ, ο Γενικός Γραμματέας της ΑΚΣ, παρουσίασε προσχέδια ψηφισμάτων που επεξεργάστηκαν οι Μόνιμες Επιτροπές Κοινωνικών και Πολιτιστικών Υποθέσεων και Οικονομίας και Αειφόρου Ανάπτυξης και τα οποία θα προωθηθούν για έγκριση στην Ολομέλεια της Συνέλευσης στα τέλη Νοεμβρίου 2018.
Ο Γενικός Γραμματέας της ΑΚΣ, έκανε ιδιαίτερη αναφορά στην εξαιρετικά πετυχημένη Συνεδρία της Επιτροπής Οικονομίας και Αειφόρου Ανάπτυξης που πραγματοποιήθηκε στην Κύπρο τον Ιούνιο 2018, υπό την προεδρία του επικεφαλής της κυπριακής αντιπροσωπίας, κ. Νίκου Τορναρίτη.
Ο κ. Τορναρίτης, σημείωσε στα πλαίσια παρέμβασής του, την ετοιμότητα της Κύπρου για ανάληψη της Προεδρίας της ΑΚΣ και αναφέρθηκε στην πρόσφατη συμμετοχή της Βουλής των Αντιπροσώπων στη 10η Συνάντηση των Κοινοβουλίων Ευρώπης – Ασίας (ASEP 10), στις Βρυξέλλες, όπου τόνισε το ρόλο που μπορεί να διαδραματίσει η Κύπρος ως γέφυρα διαλόγου μεταξύ Ευρώπης και Ασίας.

Esteemed Chairperson,
Dear colleagues,
Asia is the largest, most populated continent in the world and, as such, it enjoys unique advantages and the potential to become the global driving force of economic and political stability and prosperity. This is our shared vision that inspires us to further intensify and consolidate our efforts towards achieving our goals, as set out in the APA Charter.
This vast potential of Asia is also recognized by its European partners. Europe and Asia are bound by historical economic and trading ties. I recently had the opportunity to participate in the 10th Asia – Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP 10), held in Brussels last week, where debates focused on the crucial issue of climate change and the environmental challenges on security, migration and economy. As one of the keynote speakers, I stressed the need to deepen further engagement, dialogue and activities between the EU and Asia, particularly between the European Parliament and the APA, with the aim of reinforcing political, economic and socio-cultural cooperation. Cyprus, as a stepping stone between Europe and Asia and the only EU country member of the APA, can have an invaluable contribution to this end.
Our fundamental goal remains always the wellbeing, progress and prosperity of our citizens. In this respect, as parliamentarians, we must strive to foster national and international measures designed to promote the concept of a peace culture, combating all forms of violence, outlawing terrorism and promoting education for all. Along these guidelines, we should actively seek to reduce the illicit trade of drugs and cultural objects, as well as to combat corruption. The implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda through the achievement of sustainable development goals is an invaluable tool in these efforts. The essential elements that comprise development are common for everyone and include education, health, gender equality, empowerment of women, girls and young people, targeted support for small and medium enterprises, environmental protection and protection of human rights, as well as enhancing the rule of law where institutions are incapable of combating corruption and ensuring peaceful and secure societies.
Parliaments have a crucial part to play in ensuring these elements, through the adoption of legislation and focused budgets, as well as parliamentary scrutiny that can ultimately hold the executive to account and thus implement the commitments they have made, through the efficient use of limited resources. Furthermore, it is vital that a close link be established between governments and civil society organisations as well as other stakeholders, including the private sector, so that our actions have the greatest possible positive impact.
Cyprus on its part is deeply committed to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. In this framework, health is recognized as a key issue, as it is a necessary component for socio-economic stability and development. Achieving optimal health, including access to necessary health care, food, water, clean air, sanitation, hygiene and medicines, is a fundamental right. Taking into consideration the global trend of increased longevity and subsequent lack of support systems for the elderly, as well as the increase of health risks due to global movements, investments in health are a reinvestment in the development of society as a whole.
Protecting and enhancing democratic institutions, promoting transparency and preventing and eliminating corruption, all constitute issues of priority for Cyprus. Additionally, monitoring and modernising legislation concerning the smooth administration of justice is one of our main objectives, seeking close cooperation with all relevant stakeholders in drafting new legislation. A study on the preparation and formulation of policies and legislation, including strengthening the legislative framework to combat corruption, is also being realised.
In the field of culture, as APA parliamentarians, we must all coordinate efforts so as to highlight and safeguard the cultural diversity of Asia, one of its most dynamic and vibrant features. Our cultural heritage is a fundamental element of our national identity and, as such, it must be respected and protected. Especially when bearing in mind the ongoing destruction of cultural sites, historic monuments and valuable artefacts in areas ravished by conflict. We must thus call on all APA member parliaments to ratify the four fundamental international treaties of UNESCO on the protection of cultural heritage.
To conclude, it is evident that if we wish to achieve our goals of peace, progress and prosperity for our citizens, our countries and our region, we must intensify efforts towards the implementation of the pertinent resolutions under discussion. The APA provides us with an ideal platform to enhance collaboration and fruitful exchanges of our views, which we can, as a result, turn them into tangible benefits for our citizens.
